How this PC bottleneck calculator works
This calculator uses a matched-FPS model instead of a single abstract score. Each CPU has a resolution-independent gaming throughput index. Each GPU has per-resolution FPS values for a modern AAA-ultra game basket. Ray tracing and upscaling (DLSS/FSR/XeSS) adjust the GPU ceiling. The predicted FPS is the lower of the two ceilings, with separate 1% low estimates for frame pacing.

How to fix a CPU bottleneck
Upgrade to a faster gaming CPU (X3D chips excel in cache-sensitive titles), enable dual-channel RAM with XMP/EXPO, lower resolution or graphics settings that stress the CPU, and close background apps. At 1080p esports, CPU choice matters most.
How to fix a GPU bottleneck
Upgrade the graphics card, enable DLSS/FSR/XeSS upscaling, lower ray tracing or shadow quality, or move to a lower resolution. At 1440p and 4K, a GPU bottleneck is normal and often desirable.
How to fix RAM or storage issues
Move to 16 GB minimum (32 GB for streaming/mods), use dual-channel matched sticks, enable XMP/EXPO, and install games on an NVMe SSD. RAM and storage rarely limit average FPS but cause stutter and long loads.

Small gaps are normal. Treat results below about 10% as broadly balanced, 10-25% as worth checking against your games, and larger gaps as a stronger upgrade signal.
Should I upgrade CPU or GPU first?
